The Club at the Center of Door County

HBGC is the only private club in DC not one of and we are not a Country Club, so both references need to be removed and the verbiage reworked.  Maybe just - Horseshoe Bay Golf Club is Door County’s finest private family-oriented golf club. History of Horseshoe Bay Golf Club

  • 1900

    Frank E. Murphy begins acquiring farms in the local area; later to be known as Horseshoe Bay Farms.

  • 1916

    Frank E. Murphy builds historic Horse Shoe Bay Barns.

  • 1922

    Original Clubhouse for “Horse Shoe Bay Country Club” is built. Club does not attract enough interest to succeed and the golf course is never built.

  • 1995

    The Frank Murphy Cowles family, descendants of Frank E. Murphy, resurrect the Horseshoe Bay Country Club dream with starting Horseshoe Bay Farms Development and Golf Club.

  • 2000

    Horseshoe Bay Golf Club opens for play as a semi-private club.

  • 2005

    Frank Murphy Cowles passes away, Sally Cowles, Frank’s widow looks to sell Horseshoe Bay.

  • 2006

    New ownership group comprised of five Green Bay area individuals purchase golf club from the Frank M. Cowles family. Horseshoe Bay Development was separated from the golf club at this time and Horseshoe Bay Farms was sold to Glenn and Barb Timmerman.

  • 2010

    Members and owners celebrate the golf club’s 10 year anniversary.

  • 2012

    Member based group, Horseshoe Bay Founders Group llc, purchases the golf club and soon elects a six person executive board to govern club operations.

  • 2013

    Ownership forgoes lease and purchases the Beach Club from the Frank M. Cowles family.

  • 2015

    Horseshoe Bay Founder’s Group llc completes first capital investment projects with the Beach Club remodel and a Clubhouse Deck expansion. Both projects supported their interest directly in the member’s offerings at the club.

  • 2018

    Horseshoe Bay Farms sold by Glenn and Barb Timmerman to Horseshoe Bay Farms Inc in order to preserve the farms history.

  • 2020

    Owners and members will celebrate the club’s 20 year anniversary.
